Construction company will pay for water main break repairs

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Clean-up began Thursday after Wednesday's massive water main break downtown, and the damage is still being tallied.

A lot of water and a lot of profits went down the drain at the construction accident Wednesday.

After the water main break, the Health Department forced many of local restaurants in the area of Sea Port Village to shut down until water could be restored.

Most restaurants, not knowing how long the outage would last, closed for the night on Wednesday and sent everyone home.

Councilman Todd Gloria who represents the affected said he hopes the construction company will reimburse everyone hurt by the mistake.

The city will continue investigating exactly why the break happened, but Councilman Gloria praises city workers for quickly shutting it off, and repairing the line.

Councilman Gloria said the construction company will definitely have to reimburse the city for the repair and for the water lost.
