Talmadge residents seeing increase in garage thefts

Several local residents say thieves have been slipping into open garages and making off with valuable items.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Several Talmadge residents say thieves have been slipping into open garages and making off with valuable items. Now, they've taken it upon themselves to watch out for each other and keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

"I am as careful as I can be. I keep my alarm on," says Bob Kemp, a local resident and veteran.

Bob says he hasn't been hit by the crooks, but he has heard about the garage thefts. Some residents have had goods, such as bikes, tools, and electronics, stolen from their open garages.

"I have an alarm system and I always make sure everything is locked. Some people don't lock their gates."

Neighbors are alerting each other on social media groups about thieves lingering in their Talmadge neighborhood, but also helping each other out the old fashion way.

"We are the kind of neighborhood that keeps an eye on each other and I think that makes a difference," says Talmadge resident Lynette Saunders.

Mr. Kemp says he may be in a walker but he manages to keep his neighbors in the loop and an eye on anyone suspicious.
