Man tries to kidnap woman at a Walmart store

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man made a failed attempt to abduct a woman at an Oak Park shopping center Wednesday, authorities reported.

The would-be kidnapper grabbed the victim as she was putting items she'd bought into her car in front of a Walmart store at Marketplace at the Grove mall on College Avenue about 11:15 a.m., according to San Diego police. When she struggled and screamed, the assailant, who was clad in orange shorts and a black T-shirt, ran off to the south toward State Route 94.

No injuries were reported, SDPD spokesman Officer Humberto Hernandez said.

Officers fanned out through the area in search of the would-be abductor, described as a muscular, roughly 5-foot-8-inch black man who appeared to be in his late 30s, with tattoos on both arms and his neck.

The victim's 3-year-old son was in her vehicle at the time of the crime, leading to an erroneous preliminary police report that he had been the target of the abduction attempt.
