Rain might actually increase fire danger

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - While this storm will bring a little short-term relief to drought parched plants, it could make fire season even more dangerous.

Officials with Cal Fire say that while this rain will keep things green for a few weeks, the long-term outlook is still dry. The moisture might delay the onset of serious fire danger, but it could increase the fuel that feeds the flames.

Statewide, firefighters have already responded to double the number of wildfires than they normally would by this time in the year.
