SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The storm that hit San Diego Thursday and Friday will keep landscaping green for a the next few weeks, but California is still under a severe drought.

Despite the mandatory cutbacks currently in place, there are still several ways to keep your garden lush while also conserving water.

Clayton Tschudy is the horticulturist for the Water Conservation Garden and said it's time to give up on grass.

As the drought continues, many state residents either let their lawn go brown, or they waste water and enjoy their gardens.

In the video above learn two ways to save water and your garden, as well as new ideas on how to transform your garden into a drought tolerant one.

The Water Conservation Garden offers classes that will help individuals design a drought tolerant garden.
