The four nurses and one team leader are set to return Wednesday to the capital of Kathmandu, where they will rest and prepare to come home this weekend, according to the healthcare organization.
They left San Diego May 1, almost one week after the country was ravaged by a magnitude-7.8 earthquake. While they were deployed in mountain villages, a magnitude-7.3 quake struck.
Authorities said around 8,500 deaths resulted from both temblors, and scores of others were hurt.
In the past 2 1/2 weeks, the Scripps Health team treated 2,230 patients in at least 13 isolated, mountainous villages that, in most cases, were accessible only by helicopter.
"Everyone is safe, exhausted but absolutely fulfilled with the work," said team leader Tim Collins.
"As we wind down the operation, we have begun to process this experience and look forward to being home," Collins said. "The team is extremely grateful for this experience."
Nurse Patty Skoglund said the team looks forward to returning to San Diego, "but feel a great sadness to leave a country that is still in such need of humanitarian help."
The Scripps Health team was divided into two teams, and has been working with volunteers from other relief agencies under the auspices of the International Medical Corps. The IMC plans to host a dinner for the Scripps team before they leave.
