La Mesa planning commission votes to reject Park Station project

Posted: Updated:
LA MESA (CBS 8) - La Mesa's planning commission voted Wednesday night to recommend not to approve plans for a 4.73-acre development project in downtown La Mesa known as 'Park Station.'

The commission's decision will now be forwarded to the La Mesa city council.

The mixed-use project, which would include residential and business development at El Cajon Boulevard and Baltimore Drive, has been under fire by some members of the community, who have concerns over the proposed height of the buildings, as well as parking problems and traffic issues that they fear could result.

The project's developer decreased the height of the tallest buildings in the project to six stories, a compromise which some critics still opposed.

La Mesa's city council, which does not have to follow the planning commission's recommendation, will now vote on the proposal.

Park Station's developers have previously said that if they receive the council's approval for their project by the end of the year, Park Station could open during the summer of 2017.
