Getting dirty during the World Famous Mud Run

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – The World Famous Mud run is just a couple weeks away and thousands are expected to participate with the support of some encouraging Marines.

Fifteen to 20 obstacles make up the military-inspired course and include climbing, pushups, lunges and wading through muddy water.

One Marine said when it comes to completing the Mud Run, you need to take it one step at a time.

"So you're not thinking about the 10K, you're thinking about just this obstacle," said Cpl. Orrin Farmer United States Marine Corps.

"This is one of the events where we invite civilians to come on base and interact with the Marines,” said race director, Jill Prichard. “It's mostly civilians that do this race. We have Marines that are volunteers that are pumping them up as they go.”

The money raised at the event through registration and entry fees will be infused into the Camp Pendleton community.

"It goes back to Marines sailors and their families here to sports programs, single Marine program, nutrition and education and it's just a way for the community to help give back to their heroes that are fighting for them,” continued Prichard.

More than 300 marines volunteer along the course, where thousands of participants will run.

"We motivate and help guide all the racers through every.

So it's a great opportunity for us to interact with the racers and the community,” said Cpl. Farmer.

If you're running, experts said to wear tight clothes, because you're going to get wet and heavy loose clothes will pull you down.

Online registration closes Friday, May 22 at midnight. The Mud Run is June 6-7 and June 13-14. Click here for more information.
