Summer gas prices lowest in 5 years

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County Friday was recorded its largest daily decrease since March 20, dropping 1.7 cents to $3.933.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County Friday was recorded its largest daily decrease since March 20, dropping 1.7 cents to $3.933.

The average price has dropped five times in six days after rising 28 times in 30 days to its highest amount since July 26, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 4.2 cents lower than one week ago and 19.8 cents less than one year ago but 72.8 cents higher than one month ago.

The prices are dropping because "supply issues seem to have been resolved," said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

The oil spill in Santa Barbara is not expected to change gas prices because of the availability of crude oil elsewhere, Spring said.
