SAN DIEGO (CNS/CBS8) - An investigation was underway Tuesday into a shooting in the Valencia Park neighborhood that left two men dead and a third wounded.

Two gunmen approached a group of people gathered outside a home on Groveland Drive near 53rd Street  and opened fire around 10:45 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police Lt. Paul Rorrison. Police officers patrolling the area heard the gunfire, but the shooters ran off before they arrived.

One wounded victim was found in a courtyard behind the residence and died at the scene, Rorrison said. A second man was found in lying in the front yard and was taken to a hospital but later died.

Rorrison said both victims sustained bullet wounds to their torsos. Their names were being withheld until family members could be notified.

A third victim showed up at a hospital about 15 minutes after the shooting started, Rorrison said. He was treated for a non-life-threatening wound to his shoulder.

Police said both suspects were black, and one was wearing a black baseball cap, a white t-shirt and black pants.

Rorrison asked anyone with additional information on the shooting to call police at (619) 531-2425 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
