RANCHO PENASQUITOS (CBS 8) - Several car owners are angry and shocked as they wake up to damage to their parked cars in Rancho Penasquitos because of a DUI driver, Thursday morning. A neighbor says he helped grab the suspect until police arrived.

The drunk driver swerved and lost control, smashing into as many as ten parked cars around 1:00 a.m. The crash caused heavy damage along Carmel Mountain Road in North County

He was driving eastbound, rear ended the vehicles and continued going.

As officers rushed to the scene, the driver in his 20's and the passenger tried to take off.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said that the duo rolled down a hill, toward an apartment complex. He said he grabbed the men and held onto them until police showed up.

"The gentlemen tried to get out of the car and ran down the top part of the hill. The older gentleman tried, but he was a little bit too inebriated, fell and tumbled five times down the hill. They tried to run and I grabbed the older gentleman. I grabbed the older gentleman and the younger gentleman got through my apartment. I told them to grab him. We got them both up the hill and police came five minutes later," a neighbor said.

They were caught, questioned and placed into the back of police cruisers.

The driver was arrested for DUI and the passenger was released and allowed to go home.
