RINCON (CNS) -  A fast-moving wildfire scorched about 25 brushy acres just south of Lake Henshaw Thursday, destroying a home and three outbuildings and forcing the closure of a back-country highway.

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons about 11:30 a.m. off State Route 76 near the Moretti Junction, in rugged, hilly terrain off State Route 76, near Morettis Junction in the Santa Ysabel area, according to Cal Fire.

Within 45 minutes, about 15 acres and one building of undetermined type had burned, said Kendal Bortisser, a fire captain with the state agency. Other structures were potentially in the path of the flames, he said.

It took ground crews and personnel aboard four air tankers and several helicopters about 90 minutes to halt the spread of the flames, said Kendal Bortisser, a fire captain with the state agency.

Authorities closed a stretch of SR-76 in the area of State Route 79 as a public safety measure, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Firefighters had the smoldering burn area roughly 50 percent contained by late afternoon, Bortisser said, adding that investigators were working to determine what sparked the blaze.
