SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The horse racing season is forty-days long this summer, and four days longer than last season. One of the track's oldest fans will be enjoying every stretch run and photo finish.

The big story this year, is the arrival of American Pharaoh.

Track officials are hopeful the Triple Crown winner will run in the Million Dollar Pacific Classic.

The track expected 40,000 people Thursday, for Opening Day, and one of those racing fans has been to 64 Opening Days in a row.

Tom Wayne said he has made millions of dollars off of horse racing. Horse racing is what lead him to retire in Leucadia in the 1970's, where he bought a lot for $11,000, and now worth two-million-dollars.

CBS News 8's Jeff Zevely has Tom's story in the above video report.
