Gas prices continue to drop in San Diego County

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped 1.2 cents Saturday to $4.214, decreasing for the second consecutive day following an eight-day streak of increases totaling 74.1 cents.

The average price is "likely to remain elevated until the repairs to the Torrance refinery are completed later this summer," according to the "This Week in Petroleum" report issued by the U.S. Energy Information Authority.

The ExxonMobil refinery in Torrance remains offline because of an explosion in February. The operator is awaiting approval from the South Coast Air Quality Management District to use a refurbished piece of equipment, Marie Montgomery of the Automobile Club of Southern California told City News Service.

The average price dropped 1 cent on Friday after rising to its highest amount since May 8, 2014, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
