Toddler nearly drowns when boat flips at Ski Beach

A toddler nearly drowned during a boating accident Sunday afternoon at Ski Beach.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A toddler nearly drowned during a boating accident Sunday afternoon at Ski Beach.

The girl’s mother says her daughter, 5-year-old son and other adult family members were riding in a small boat when it capsized. Everyone was thrown into the water and when they came up to surface, they couldn't find their toddler. A Good Samaritan who witnessed the accident jumped from his boat into the water and pulled the toddler from underneath the capsized boat.

Fortunately, she was wearing a life-jacket and didn't require CPR. However, her mother says that for a moment, she thought her daughter had drowned.

Those who witnessed the aftermath question why children that age were out on the water in the first place.

"They shouldn't be out there, they are really too young," said one witness.

Both the toddler and the 5-year-old boy didn't suffer any injuries and were released by first responders after being checked on.
