Teodoros' success story

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - With three biological children, the foster family you're about to meet had no plans to adopt, but one special baby changed their minds.

After family decided to adopt him, but sadly he died from medical complications before the adoption was finalized. A few months later, however, the boy's baby brother, Teodoro, was placed with the family. And Teodoro has helped heal their hearts and is bringing so much happiness to their home.

The entire family is captivated by 18-month old Teodoro who they call Teo for short.

Teo brought laughter and hope to his forever family, during a very painful time in their lives. When Teo joined this family shortly after birth, they were still mourning the loss of his older biological brother who was about a year old when he died of complications from heart surgery.

He died while victor and his wife Lariza were in the process of adopting him and seven months later, Teo was born.

Thirteen-year-old Lariza helped her dad explain:

“To like help us heal, like everything we went through after his passing away, he didn't. Like my dad was saying, he didn't come to specifically replace him, but maybe just to warm our hearts and give us a little comfort.”

Seven-year-old Nahyma still breaks down in sadness, over the loss:

“She just gets, we just all get really emotional when we start talking about Baby Teo's older brother, yeah, it just really touches all our hearts.”

But now, there's so much to be thankful for and so many reasons to smile now that Teo is part of this family.

At only 10-years-old, Pedro is already planning to follow in his parents' footsteps:

“I know, I'm still young, but when I grow up, I already have the feeling I'm going to adopt children.”

Victor and Larissa are leaving a legacy of love and their children couldn't be more proud. And the family continues to foster children.
