Big storms affect our wildlife too

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - People weren't the only ones affected by this weekend’s summer storms.

The rain and flooding caused plenty of disruption for animals too. Dozens of crawfish were swept down river and have been trying to find their way back home.

Yesterday, just east of College Avenue along where the Alvarado Creek broke over its banks, not only were cars flooded, but raccoons were forced to seek high ground in a hurry.

Trish Jackman with Project Wildlife says the time of year makes a real difference for the animals. Fortunately, she says, the temperatures are warm which means most animals will fare well despite the disruption the summer storm caused.
