Brothers killed on SR-76 identified

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities released the names Monday of two brothers from Escondido who died in a head-on collision on a rural highway near Pauma Valley Country Club.

Andrew Parks, 24, and his 27-year-old sibling, Alexander, were heading east on state Route 76 in the Rincon area when the 2002 Mazda Miata they were in crossed into a westbound lane shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

The sports car smashed into an oncoming box truck just west of Lazy H Drive, winding up wedged underneath it, the California Highway Patrol reported. The brothers died at the scene of the accident.

The 49-year-old driver of the cargo vehicle and his 43-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries, CHP public-affairs Officer Jim Bettencourt said. Medics took them to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.

It was unclear why Andrew Parks lost control of the car, officials said.
