CORONADO (CBS 8) - Outdoor Outreach is a local nonprofit that supports underserved youth in San Diego County who are at risk for school dropout, substance abuse, violence and unintended pregnancy.

They are the only agency in San Diego to utilize outdoor physical experiences to provide youth with the support, relationships, resources and opportunities they need to become successful adults.

Their programs include outdoor activities such as rock climbing, surfing, mountain biking, snowboarding and snorkeling.

The San Diego Women’s Foundation also recently awarded Outdoor Outreach a $50,000 grant to support their Outdoor Voices Youth Leadership Initiative program.

The goal of the Outdoor Voices Youth Leadership Initiative is to use the outdoors to provide teens with life skills, employment opportunities, and civic engagement training.

"The overall goal is really how we can inspire youth to see possibility in their lives," Executive Director, Outdoor Outreach, Ben McCue said.

The program engages teens from underserved communities who do not have equal opportunities to access and benefit from a connection to the outdoors.
