Chula Vista cuts down trees in heart of city

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Downtown Chula Vista is going through some big changes and right now, it's a lot less green than it used to be.

Several palm trees were removed from the median on Third Avenue. The palm trees were removed as the second phase of the Third Avenue Village Streetscape improvement project gets underway.

The City of Chula Vista is spending $2.3 million on the second phase and the makeover is expected to include a number of improvements. One of these improvements includes replacing the medians with drought-tolerant, low maintenance plants and new palm trees. The addition of these new plants is expected to help the city save money and conserve water.
