SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 30-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence crashed his Fiat 500 head-on into a 1987 Chevrolet sedan in Rancho Penasquitos Wednesday, killing a 61-year-old woman driver, police said.

The collision occurred in the 14100 block of Carmel Valley Road, near Camino Del Sur, at 6:24 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

"The horn has been sounded many many times for many years continually about the perils of drinking and driving, here yet, is another example of what frequently occurs when people make the choice to drink and get behind the wheel and drive," said Sgt. Leonard Flake.

The eastbound Fiat apparently drifted into the oncoming westbound lane, police said.

The victim's identity has not been released.

The driver of the Fiat was arrested and booked into jail on felony manslaughter charges.
