SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's National Zookeeper Week and there are several goals that come with the week, celebrating the hard work of zookeepers.

They promote the dedication and hard work of animal care professionals year round as they celebrate animal care professionals’ achievements during the third week in July.

A big part of the celebration is sharing the zookeepers' accomplishments and creating awareness of their dedication to conservation and wildlife to the public. Communicating the necessity for zoos and aquariums; by way of animal care professionalism, research, and fundraising efforts is important.

Animal Care Specialists at SeaWorld have many jobs, including preparing meals for the mammals.

"The best part about this job is having a relationship with the killer whale, which is a pretty cool thing to have, but it's also awesome to share that relationship with our guest and educate them about killer whales and marine life," Killer Whale Trainer, Lindy Donahue said.

Teens in grades 10-12 are spending 9 weeks at SeaWorld at the Career Camp, where they will get a chance to experience the career field they're interested in.
