SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A K-9 unit detected a stash of about 1,100 pounds of marijuana in a fake wall inside a trailer that tried to enter through the Otay Mesa Port of Entry Wednesday evening.

The Freightliner tractor entered the port of entry around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, when a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer scanned the trailer and noticed anomalies within the front wall of the trailer.

CBP officers continued their investigation and a K-9 alerted to the trailer’s front wall.  Another CBP officer drilled into the front wall and pulled out a leafy green substance that field-tested positive for marijuana.

Forty five large, wrapped packages of marijuana, totaling about 1,102 pounds, were discovered inside. The marijuana has a street value of more than $600,000.

CBP officers seized the marijuana, tractor and trailer. The 51-year-old male driver is now in the custody of ICE agents who will continue the investigation.
