Suspect in custody after deadly Oceanside shooting

Oceanside police are working the scene of a shooting in the 3600 block of Barnard Drive.

OCEANSIDE (CNS) - An 18-year-old man was behind bars Monday accused of fatally shooting his roommate at an Oceanside apartment complex. A second man was shot, but is expected to survive.

Calvin Glass, Jr., was taken into custody at the Escondido Transit Center around 4:15 p.m. Sunday in connection with the shootings at the complex at 3699 Barnard Drive about two hours earlier, Oceanside police Lt. Matt Cole said.

Glass was turned over to Oceanside police detectives and allegedly confessed to shooting the two victims, Cole said. A possible motive for the shootings was not immediately disclosed, but Glass and the two victims all lived in the apartment building, according to news reports.

Cole said officers called to the Shadow Ridge Apartments around 2:10 p.m. Sunday found the fatally wounded victim, who died at the scene, and the less severely injured man, who was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Neither man's name was immediately available.

Witnesses at the apartment complex provided information that later led police to Glass, according to the lieutenant.

Glass was being held at the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear in court to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to jail records.
