JACKSONVILLE, Florida (CBS 8, San Diego) -- A sex offender convicted in the 2007 death of San Diego State University coed Donna Jou is officially off community supervision.

John Steven Burgess is registered on the Florida state sex offender web site as living with his mother at a Jacksonville address on New York Avenue.

Burgess, 43, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in 2009.  He admitted to meeting the 19-year-old on Craigslist and giving her drugs that caused her overdose.

Jou’s body was never found.  Burgess claimed he panicked after finding her dead and used a boat to dump her body in the ocean.

Burgess served his time on the manslaughter conviction but he was returned to prison in 2012 for illegally possessing ammunition.

He was paroled to Florida last year under California’s realignment law.

On Tuesday, Jou’s father received notification via email that Burgess had completed the term of his supervision.

“This offender has been terminated from community supervision and is no longer being supervised by the (Florida parole) department,” the email stated.
