Fallbrook falls short on water conservation

Posted: Updated:

FALLBROOK (CBS 8) - A San Diego Water Agency is drawing criticism after it failed to meet state guidelines for water conservation.

The Fallbrook Public Utility District was ranked the second worst in the state for conservation last month.

Among those who missed the mark the most are the city of Livingston, located 100-miles South of Sacramento. It missed its target by about 29-percent.

Fallbrook was right behind it at 27-percent, and Rainbow also made the list, missing its target by 15-percent.

Noelle Denke, spokesperson for Fallbrook Public Utility believes their overall water savings hit pretty close to the target. However, the state may only be considering residential savings. According to Denke, 40-percent of their customers are agricultural.

"Some of our customers have a home on their farm so they're a mixed use customer. It's unclear how the state board is interpreting that data," she said.
