SAN DIEGO (CBS 8/CNS) - An SUV filled with teenagers flipped multiple times before its driver allegedly fled the scene on the 94 Freeway east Saturday.

The California Highway Patrol said a Ford Expedition was traveling east near Euclid Avenue when it rolled at 1:55 a.m.

The CHP said officers at the scene found six teenagers outside the vehicle and all had been drinking.

Officer Jake Sanchez says it's unclear if the driver had been drinking before the crash because he or she ran away before officers arrived. The driver is looking at felony hit and run charges

"Right now we're trying to talk to the passengers and contacting the registered owner of vehicle. We hope to find the driver soon," Sanchez said.

The passengers, all from San Diego, range in age from 17 to 23 years old.

The teens were taken to a hospital, it is unclear how severe their injuries were, even though most of the passengers were not wearing seatbelts, according to officers.

"When you get into a situation like this and you have that many teens distracting driving down the road, and you maybe mix alcohol in, it's a recipe for tragedy," Sanchez said.
