BAY PARK (CBS 8) - Charles Ballinger and his other neighbors couldn't believe the suspect police were tracking ended up just feet from their backyards.

"I saw young man come around the corner here in the cul-de-sac he walked very carefully suddenly he disappeared," Ballinger said.

The young man Ballinger saw had just been caught in a stolen car with a female suspect, police said.

The car was reported stolen early Saturday morning. It had Lojack technology installed in the car. A police helicopter was over Fiesta Island, spotted it and began moving in on it.

The helicopter followed it near the I-5 and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard

Police say the suspects must've realized officers were on to them. They ditched the vehicle near the 2500 block of Ingulf Place.

A female was arrested and placed in the back of a squad car, the male took off running.

A neighbor who asked we not identify him, spotted the suspected car thief in some bushes. He threw rocks at him to try to get him to come out.

"I saw the bushes moving, I tried to scare him out. I told him, hey, get out of here."

He waved a team of officers in the suspect's direction. He says it certainly wasn't the kind of afternoon he was expecting, but he was just glad he was able to help officers get the man they were after.
