Community blood drive reaches a milestone in Encinitas

Posted: Updated:

ENCINITAS (CBS 8) - A special blood drive was held in Encinitas Saturday.

It's the latest in a series of blood drives with a specific goal to reach 500 pints of blood.

They were first organized by neighbors for a 13-year-old girl who needed blood after being diagnosed with leukemia three years ago.

That girl is now 16 and her cancer is in remission, but the community blood drives have continued.

"People that come every time, brand new people, young and old, first time donators.  Sometimes they ask, what it's about, sometimes they're just here," Jill Nunez, Blood Drive Organizer said.

Organizers tell us they have finally reached their goal of 500 pints.
