Hit-and-run driver ditches car after UTC condo crash

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Two UTC residents had an early morning wake up call Monday, after a Mercedes crashed through their front door, according to police.

Officers reported that a white Mercedes missed a turn on the street and rammed into the house in the 7800 block of Camino Aguila. The crash left a gaping hole in the front of a house and the driver fled the scene.

Two SDSU college students were in upstairs bedrooms at the time of the crash. One woman said she saw the driver and said he got back in the Mercedes and drove away.

"It sounded like he slammed into a car. I heard screeching tires and my car is parked outside, but I felt the whole building shake and then I realized he slammed into our front door," said Elena Cardenas one of the victims.

Police tracked down the car to the 7800 block of Camino Noguera, where the driver ditched the Mercedes in a parking space.

Officers followed the trail of leaking car fluid on the pavement about a block away from the scene. However, the driver was nowhere to be found and now authorities are actively searching for that driver.
