Little Italy residents support 'Star Dog Park' proposal

A grassroots effort is underway to bring a dog park to Little Italy rather than another high rise building.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A grassroots effort is underway to bring a dog park to Little Italy rather than another high rise building.

In 2012, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted against the expressed desires of the residents of Little Italy to destroy the historic Star Builder's Supply building at the gateway to Little Italy.

The proposed site is located on county-owned land on the northwest corner of Kettner Boulevard and Beech Street.

With more than 12,000 dogs living in that area, dog owners say the park is a necessity because it's a place where dogs can run and play.

CBS News 8's Ashley Jacobs files the above video report from Little Italy with more on their mission.
