IMPERIAL BEACH (CNS) - Sheriff's deputies reached out to the public Wednesday for help identifying a man who approached high school and elementary school students in Imperial Beach.

Witnesses said the man approached students from Mar Vista High School at around 2:45 p.m. Monday, according to the sheriff's department. The man offered students information about an after-school program and a chance to earn extra credit and enter to win a free iPad.

Sheriff's officials said the man is not an employee of the school district and did not have any identification.

The man was described as about 5-foot-7 and between 35-45 years old. Witnesses said the man had long curly black hair that he wore "slicked back" in a ponytail. The man was wearing a white polo shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff's department at (858) 565-5200. People who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
