Injured veteran received new smart home

The Gary Sinise Foundation helped change the life of an injured Marine veteran on Friday in Fallbrook by giving him a brand new smart home.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Gary Sinise Foundation helped change the life of an injured Marine veteran on Friday in Fallbrook by giving him a brand new smart home.

Staff Sergeant Jason Ross joined the Marine Corps in 2001. During a 2011 deployment in Afghanistan, he stepped on an IED and lost both of his legs.

On Friday, representatives from the Rise Program with the Gary Sinise Foundation presented keys and a custom iPad to Ross.

He said he is thankful and relieved.

"it's been a long road. It's going to be an interesting experience," he said.

Ross has been through more than 200 surgeries across the country following his accident, including at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
