Arson suspected after five vehicles go up in flames in Bay Ho

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - On Tuesday, investigators report the fires that burned five vehicles parked in Bay Ho were intentionally set.

Firefighters sent to Ariane Drive near Morena Boulevard shortly before 4:30 a.m. Monday found at least five vehicles in flames, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Fire crews said that they received a call about burning cars fully engulfed.

“When they're in a row, I mean there was one, there two in there was three and you just keep going, I figured there was something wrong it looks suspicious just due to the damage and how much the vehicles were involved,” said  Capt. Ronnie Dizon, SDFD. “And we're not sure. The police department is checking into it, but there was a trailer up there with a jackknife and reportedly the reporting party said there were two kids on bikes going up the hill, so we're not sure if that was a part of it."

Firefighters said it was hard to determine the makes and models of the vehicles due to the damage. However they added that it appeared multiple trucks and a Toyota Corolla were involved.

No one was inside any of the vehicles at the time of the fire, but the nearby brush was an issue and firefighters remained on scene to make sure all hotspots were extinguished.

The car fires were out in about 20 minutes and remain under investigation.

Damage is estimated at 60,000 dollars. So far, no suspect description has been released.
