Coastal Commission to vote on San Onofre waste

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The California Coastal Commission will vote Tuesday on a plan to store more radioactive fuel at San Onofre.

Southern California Edison wants to partially bury 75 canisters containing 2,600 spent fuel rods at the site.

Fifty-one canisters are already stored there.

The commission staff is recommending approval with conditions.

Last month, county supervisors called on congress to find a long term storage solution out of San Diego County.
