Huge clean up after water main break in El Cajon

EL CAJON (CNS) - Crews have wrapped up work on a broken water main in El Cajon.

On Wednesday, a water main break in the Jamacha area outside El Cajon flooded several nearby homes and prompted the closure of an area roadway.

The break near the intersection of Hillsdale Road and Hillsdale Lane was reported around 8:30 a.m., according to Cal Fire. Photos taken at the scene
showed a massive waterspout shooting from the rupture.

"It must have been 80-feet in the air. Just tremendous amount of water," said Donita Blalock, an area resident.

Residents of two or three homes in the vicinity of the break reported flooding before crews shut off the water, Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser said.

"The fire department came out, and he had me put towels in front of the door to keep the water out. That was good, but it was so much water it just came under the walls," said Blalock.

Hillsdale Road was closed from Jamacha Road to Chase Avenue, according to the county Department of Public Works.

The Otay Water District provided a drinking water tank that residents were able to use until the repairs were finished.
