RIVERSIDE (CBS 8) - The husband of slain Escondido Police Officer Laura Perez was convicted of second-degree murder and arson.

A Riverside County jury found Freddy Perez-Rodas guilty of gunning down his wife and then torching their Murrieta home to cover up the crime.

Murrieta police Lt. Tony Conrad alleged that Rodas shot his wife in the chest during a domestic dispute.

Officer Laura Perez died at the scene, after which the suspect transported her body to a Moreno Valley storage locker.

Rodas then returned to the house and set fire to it.

Rodas admitted to killing his wife and burning the location in an attempt to cover up the crime. He took detectives to where he had dumped his wife's remains.

The couple's five-year-old daughter is now being cared for by Laura's mother.

Perez-Rodas faces 49-years to life in prison when he is sentenced on December 4th.
