Study: Short-term rentals good for San Diego's economy

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - New research shows short-term rentals like those offered through airbnb are good for San Diego's economy.

The study was done by the National University System Institute for policy research.

The study found more than 6,100 short-term rentals in the City of San Diego.

Researchers said the rentals generate more than $110 million a year in lodging revenue, and visitors spend about $86 million while they are in San Diego.

"People that are coming for these unique lodging opportunities come and spend their money in San Diego's neighborhoods," said Erik Bruvold, with National University.

Researchers also found the rentals generate about $17 million in tax revenue for the city.
