An elderly PB woman gets help with an intruder armed with a hammer

A good Samaritan nabs a hot prowler in his elderly neighbor’s home in Pacific Beach.

SAN DIEGO (CBS8) – A good Samaritan helps nab a hot prowler in his elderly neighbor’s home in Pacific Beach.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Friday, police responded to the 1000 block of Pacific Beach Drive where a female suspect was taken into custody.

The elderly woman says she heard someone talking downstairs and asked, '"Who was there?' All of the sudden as I got to the balcony this woman was saying, 'I live here, you don't live here, this is my house.’ I said, 'Who are you?'”

The homeowner, Beverly, 87, didn’t want to show her face on television for fear she would be targeted again, says she stalled the woman.

“I knew one thing I had to keep her downstairs and I had to stay upstairs and I said, 'I’m getting dressed, I'll be down there in a minute,'" said Beverly.

She called police and her neighbor’s brother for help.

“I went in and she is sitting at the kitchen table and I told her she was under a citizen’s arrest, handcuffed her and checked on Bev,” said Dan Hamel.

He owned the popular beach and bike shop Hamel's in Mission Beach and has had his run-ins with unwanted company so he came over with mace and handcuffs.

“Nobody hurt, everybody goes home, that's a win,” said Hamel.

CBS News 8 was on the scene when the suspect was taken into police custody. Information about the suspect was not available.
