San Diegans having fun in the sun despite the heat wave

SANTEE (CBS 8) - Fall in San Diego, yet the Summer-like temperatures just keep hanging on.

At Santee Lakes the spray ground is the perfect spot to cool off. Christine Romano brought her 3-year-old daughter Katie.

"We don't have a pool at home, so this is a good alternative for her," Romano said.

It reached 100 degrees in Santee, which made it difficult for people to find a shaded spot. Even the birds tried to find shade close to nearby rocks.

The heatwave prompted the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory for San Diego County until 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

"She wants to go outside and ride her bike and it's too hot. She doesn't realize how hot. Kids don't understand the heat until it's dangerously too late," Romano said.

The sweltering temperatures prompted one woman to keep moving.

"I'm staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water. We keep moving our chairs to find shade," she said.

At the 'Car-B-Que' in Santee, folks sweated it out anyway, enjoying plenty of hot cars on a very hot day.

"Right now the breeze is blowing, so it's bearable. I'd rather be in an air conditioned room, but it's San Diego. We love San Diego," she said.
