Three arrested in assault on liquor store employee

FALLBROOK (CNS) - A Fallbrook liquor store employee was struck in the head with a bottle and suffered serious injuries Tuesday when he tried to stop a robbery suspect.

Deputies responding about 2:40 p.m. to the store in the 1000 block of South Main Avenue found the male victim lying in the middle of the street, suffering from head trauma, San Diego sheriff's Sgt. Dwain Washington said.

"The store owner stated the victim is his employee," Washington said.

"The victim was attempting to stop two suspects from stealing bottles of liquor. When the victim caught up to one of the suspects, the suspect struck him in the head with one of the liquor bottles."

The victim was taken to a hospital, he said.

Witnesses at the scene saw the suspect drop the bottle and then get into a black sedan, which left the area, Washington said.

Deputies in Vista spotted the vehicle, which was pulled over in Oceanside.

Three men -- 18, 19 and 26 years old -- were detained and identified by witnesses as being involved in the robbery and assault, Washington said.

The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon and the other two men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy, Washington said.

Their names were not released.
