CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A former commodore of the Coronado Yacht Club and retired firefighter who molested a neighbor girl and another young girl is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday at the South Bay Courthouse.
Thomas Garrett, 74, pleaded guilty Aug. 31, just before opening statements were to be delivered in his retrial.
Garrett was convicted in 2013 of molesting a 10-year-old girl who lived next door to him in Chula Vista.
In January 2014, a judge, citing jury misconduct, granted the defendant a new trial, and prosecutors subsequently added new charges involving a second victim, said Deputy District Attorney Harrison Kennedy.
Garrett worked for the San Diego Fire Department for 32 years, retiring in 1997 as a battalion chief. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
