Jerry Cesak of "Jeff & Jer" radio duo retiring

Wednesday was the last time on air for longtime San Diego radio personality Jerry Cesak who is retiring after a decades long career in broadcasting.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Wednesday was the last time on air for longtime San Diego radio personality Jerry Cesak who is retiring after a decades long career in broadcasting.

Cesak was half of San Diego's much admired "Jeff & Jer" dynamic radio duo. He announced his retirement last month, stating that October 14th would be his last show on KyXy 96.5.

The Jeff & Jer Showgram was once featured on KFMB's FM radio station which is now 100.7 Jack FM.

Jer remarks about the Showgram's success, "You cannot explain chemistry. If you could explain chemistry, you could make it happen....and then everybody would have what the six of us have."

Jeff and Jer have been together for more than 30 years, starting together in Detroit, then moving to Chicago before coming to San Diego in 1988. Over the years their cast has grown with the addition of producer Tommy Sablan, Laura Cain and Randy Hoag.

Jer says he will be taking on a bigger role with the Humane Society of the United States, where he is already on the board of directors. He also wants to do a little writing for television.

Several special guests stopped by the KyXy studios on Jer's last day including Mayor Faulconer who, along with the City Council, officially declared it Jerry Cesak Day.

Jer, on camera, says, "It's been twenty-seven years but it feels like five. This has never been work. This is not a job."

The radio show will continue with Jeff and the rest of the cast.
