PORTLAND (CBS 8) - Subway is in the news again. A customer's Facebook post showing a picture of a dead mouse in his friend's Subway sandwich is going viral.

KGW-TV in Portland reports a customer, Jay Armstead, ordered an Italian sub sandwich from a Lincoln City Subway restaurant. The Subway employee scooped spinach from the bottom of the spinach bin and put it on the sandwich. Immediately after, Armstead and his friend, Matt Jones, were startled with what they saw - the dead rodent in the sandwich - and snapped a picture of it.

The health department was promptly notified and inspected the store for contamination. They determined the incident didn’t put anyone in danger of getting sick and that the rodent did not come from the facility but most likely from the store's spinach supplier.

Both customers were given a full refund. Subway declined to identify its spinach supplier and also issued a statement.

As soon as the customer alerted the owner about what happened, they were immediately given a full refund and an investigation was launched. To be cautious, all of the products in the sandwich unit were disposed of and a thorough cleaning took place, in which the Health Department gave the restaurant a clean bill of health. There were no other complaints made.

Subway has been in the media lately as longtime Subway pitchman Jared Fogle plead guilty to child-pornography charges back in August.
