SDSU student beaten and robbed on campus

Authorities are on alert Thursday looking for six men who beat and robbed a San Diego State student for his cell phone.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Authorities are on alert Thursday looking for six men who beat and robbed a San Diego State student for his cell phone.

It happened on campus just after midnight near the Education and Business Administration Building in the 6000 block of Aztec Circle Drive, not far from emergency phones. Police are warning students to be on high alert. This is the second violent crime against students in 24 hours.

SDSU Campus Police say six suspects went up to a student on campus and demanded his cell phone near a parking garage.

Officers say they allegedly assaulted the victim and snatched his backpack and phone. The suspects ran away, but for some unknown reason, they dropped the student's property on the ground as they took off.

Investigators said the primary suspect is a black male, approximately 18 to 21 years old, last seen wearing a red T-shirt, beanie, cargo shorts and Nike sandals. The other suspects are described as black males between 18 to 21 years old.

This comes after another vicious crime the night before.

Police say three suspects entered into an unlocked house full of six students and started demanding money. Officers say they barged through the front door not once, but twice. That was at the 5600 block of Mary Lane.

They wore Halloween masks, including a Scream mask, court jester mask and Mardi Gras mask. Officers say they were armed with a shotgun and a hand gun.

A student got into a physical fight with a suspect and their shotgun went off, just missing his leg and hitting the floor while their house was ransacked.

Police are sending out crime alerts via cell phone and email for students and staff to be extra vigilant and to call them immediately, if they see anything suspicious.

Anyone with information on the robbery should contact San Diego State University Police at (619) 594-1991. Callers can remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at (619) 235-8477.
