Going over the edge to fight brain cancer

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Dozens of people will be going over the edge to raise money for brain cancer research on Saturday at the Grand Hyatt San Diego.

Friday was media day, and CBS News 8's very own Jeff Zevely rappelled down 30 stories to the ground below with a special teenager determined to beat the disease.

It takes courage to rappel from the tallest Waterfront building on the West coast, but if 16-year-old Bryce newman could do it, then so could Jeff.

Bryce is battling brain cancer. His football teammates at Cathedral Catholic shaved their heads to support him.

On Friday, everyone was on the same team.

Last year, Over the Edge raised more than $200,000 for San Diego based brain cancer research.

It's a daring dangle for a good with no strings attached.

On Saturday, Jack FM 100.7, will broadcast LIVE from the event from 11 a.m., to 3 p.m., and offer a chance for one lucky person to rappel free of charge.

NOTE: You can join CBS 8 in the fight against breast cancer during the month of November for the Race for the Cure on Sunday, November 1 and the 2015 San Diego 3-Day November 20 - 22.

Also, leave a message on the CBS 8 Breast Cancer Can't Stop San Diegans: Wall of Inspiration celebrating the survivors in your life or honoring your loved ones lost.

Some of the footage in this video story was shot using a GoPro camera.
