SDFD knocks down Point Loma structure fire

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Food left unattended on a hot stove Monday morning started a fire that caused an estimated $280,000 worth of damage to a Point Loma-area house, authorities reported.

The non-injury blaze in the 1100 block of Catalina Boulevard began spreading about 11 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

A nanny baby-sitting at the time was able to get out of the burning home along with the infant she was watching, Capt. Joe Amador said.

The flames spread from the kitchen of the single-story home into its attic before firefighters could extinguish the blaze, which took about 20 minutes.

Investigators set the monetary losses at $250,000 to the structure and $30,000 to contents, Amador said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
