Deputies seek two men who attempted to abduct 17-year-old girl

ENCINITAS (CBS 8/CNS) - The search is on for two men who tried to abduct a 17-year-old girl in Encinitas.

On Thursday, two men tried to kidnap the San Dieguito High School Academy student as she walked along a roadside near the campus, authorities reported.

The would-be kidnappers pulled up alongside the girl at Melba and Nardo roads in Encinitas shortly before noon, grabbed her and tried to pull her into a white truck, according to sheriff's officials.

The teen was able to break free and ran home, Capt. John Maryon said.

She described the men as Latino in their 40's. The one driving the pickup, which appeared similar to a Ford Ranger, was wearing a plaid shirt and faded blue baseball cap. The only feature the girl noticed about the passenger was his "shaggy" hair, the captain said.

Anyone who might be able to help identify the perpetrators was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
