SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Responding to huge protests and a successful petition drive, the developers revealed updated renderings of the One Paseo project at the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board Thursday night.
Developers have scaled-back the $750 million multi-use project development for housing, shopping and office space on the 23 acres in Carmel Valley slated for the project.

Since February, the San Diego City Council approved the original, much larger project that included residential, office and retail space off Del Mar Heights Road between El Camino Real and High Bluff Drive. However, residents obtained enough signatures to take it to a vote. Now the Kilroy realtors, working with the community, downsized the complex.
“We created an environment that would allow us to listen and incorporate the ideas of the community into this new project,” said the Vice President of Kilroy Realty, Jamas Gwilliam.
Developers said one of the major concerns surrounding the One Paseo project, now gaining support, was traffic. Developers are working to reduce the traffic by 43 percent.
The developers said in the updated plan retail space has been reduced by 61 percent, office space is reduced by 43 percent, 608 condos will remain and start out as rentals. Sixty of those condos will be affordable housing for a total of 1.1 million square feet, which is still much larger than originally zoned.

"It's two times what it was supposed to be. This is wrong,” said Carmel Valley resident, Penny Davis.
Davis lives across the street and is not pleased despite One Paseo's efforts to address concerns regarding traffic and density.
“I've been fighting this for six years. I am not happy with what is going on,” continued Davis.
The Carmel Valley Community Planning Board could meet for a special session next month and if the members approve One Paseo, the project would then move to the planning commission for a vote. Next, the city council could vote on the project in January or February.
