Man struck and killed in Scripps Ranch identified

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities identified a man Monday morning who was fatally injured when struck by a car while walking his dog in Scripps Ranch.

Stephen Todd Fisk, 49, of San Diego and his dog were hit by an eastbound 2014 Audi on Spring Canyon Road near Sunset Ridge Drive around 8:45 p.m. Friday, according to San Diego police and the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Fisk's dog was also killed.

Stephen Fisk did not live in the Scripps Ranch, but his mom said he enjoyed hiking with his dog in the area.

A roadside memorial was placed in Stephen's honor at the site of the accident.

"I was very, very sad and very sympathetic to everybody involved because I know how dark it is. I walk here often and it's very, very dark. This road kind of curves here at this point, so it is a very difficult place to try and cross," said Lisa Schalon, a Scripps Ranch resident.

According to police, Fisk and his dog were in an unmarked crosswalk when a 52-year-old woman driving a white Audi slammed into them.

Neighbors in Scripps Ranch heard the collision and called 911. The driver stayed on scene, called police and sat on the sidewalk after the accident.

Police said the driver was headed Eastbound while Stephen and his dog were walking Southbound toward the neighborhood. Police have not said if speed or intoxication were a factor.

"It's a beautiful area to walk. Scripps Ranch has many walkways and trails. I'm not surprised he would come here, but we were very concerned at first that it would be somebody we know because everyone knows everybody here," said Schalon.

Stephen lived in Clairemont with his mother and he had a brother living in Scripps Ranch.

"Sad for everybody involved. It just makes your heart sick for all the families involved on both sides," said Schalon.

The driver involved in the crash was not hurt and police said no charges were filed against her.
